Chisinau, 21 June /MOLDPRES/ - The MOLDPRES State News Agency marked the 31st anniversary of its foundation on 20 June. In all these years, the institution has provided with dedication truthful, verified information from the first source, quickly and in due time.

Founded under a Decision by the Supreme Soviet (parliament) of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (RSSM) from 20 June 1990, following the liquidation of the Moldovan Information Agency (ATEM), MOLDPRES acquired with insistence the status of official ‘’voice’’ of the state, which sends written, photo and video information about the political, economic, social, cultural, scientific, sports events of Moldova and from the world to public and private institutions, written and audiovisual media, diplomatic representations, international media institutions.

Immediately after the foundation, the Moldova-pres National News Agency, as it was initially defined, established the first cooperation relations with the Rompres National News Agency (Romania) and ITAR-TASS News Agency (Russia). Presently, this cooperation extended and MOLDPRES exchanges information with the news agencies: Agerpres (Romania), ITAR-TASS (Russia), Ukrinform (Ukraine), Belta (Belarus), BTA (Bulgaria), XINHUA (China), Anadolu (Turkey) etc.

Starting from the first days of the unleashing of the Transnistria War till the singing of the ceasefire agreement, MOLDPRES reporters consistently reported information about the situation in the conflict-stricken zone, which represented, at that time, the only truthful source of information in the region. And they were like this on the entire period of the institution’s work. Both the MOLDPRES reporters and photo-reporters informed with discernment about all events which were occurring in Moldova and abroad. With the richest photo archive of the country, the Agency permanently completes is database with materials on the state structure, political and economic events, international relations of Moldova.

Initially subordinated to the parliament, the Agency in 1994 switched to the management of Moldova’s government and became editor of the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) of Moldova. Subsequently, structural changes appeared, the goal of which was to optimize the managerial activity and transform MOLDPRES into a modern mass media structure, with three principal directions of work: spreading information of wide public interest, photo reports and the editing of the Official Journal.

On 23 June 2018, under a Moldovan government’s decision, the state enterprise MOLDPRES State News Agency was reorganized through transformation into the public institution MOLDPRES State News Agency, having the State Chancellery as founder.

In accordance with the professional deontology, MOLDPRES is guided by the principle of work outside any political, ideological or other kinds of influences, which would affect the impartiality, accuracy and pluralism. An important direction in the latest activity of the Agency is the promotion of Moldova’s image in the world, coverage of events dealing with the country’s integration into the European structures and implementation of western living standards.
