Moldovan parliament hosts 57th General Assembly of Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly

Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s parliament today is the host of the 57th session of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly (BSEC PA). The event takes place online, with participation of Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii as President of BSEC PA, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The delegation is made up of lawmakers Violeta Ivanov, as head of the delegation and Mihail Paciu, Sergiu Litvinenco and Iurie Renita as members.

The Standing Bureau and Committee of the General Assembly hold meetings today morning. At the same time, during the day, the BSEC PA plenary session will take place, which is to be inaugurated by Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii.

At the ceremony on the session’s opening, greeting speeches will be given by Foreign Affairs Minister of Albania, Olta Xhacka, who holds the BSEC chairmanship-in-office; President of the Chamber of Deputies from Romania Ludovic Orban, in the context of the rotation of the BSEC PA chairmanship, and BSEC PAS Secretary General Asaf Hajiyev.

The agenda of the high-level meeting of the BSEC PA includes the report on the activity of the Parliamentary Assembly. The participants will tackle subjects on the economic, commercial and education activity. The members of the economic, commercial, technological and ecological issues; of the commission for culture, education and social affairs, commission for legal and political issues will unveil reports on the role of parliaments in the prevention of the trafficking of human beings – legal and political aspects. Violeta Ivanov will present the report on behalf of Moldova as member of the committee.

The General Assembly will elect the BSEC PA deputy presidents. Also, a round of discussions on the organization of the 2021 Autumn Session of the General Assembly will be held next. The issue on the accession of North Macedonia to BSEC PA will be considered too.   

BSEC PA was set up in Istanbul in 1993. Presently, the Assembly includes delegations of the parliaments from 12 member states: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine.    

In the first half of this year, Moldova holds the BSEC PA chairmanship-in-office. According to the principle of rotation, the parliament of Romania will take over the chairmanship of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly at a today’s session.
