40 emergencies recorded in Moldova earlier this year

Chisinau,1 July /MOLDPRES/- Since the beginning of the year, about 40 emergencies have been registered in the country, such as storms, torrential rains with hail and strong wind, dust storms, etc. The bad weather occurred in 77 localities from 23 districts, the most affected were Sangerei, Floresti, Ungheni, Soroca, Stefan Voda, Criuleni, Donduseni, Soldanesti, Rezina, Ialoveni, Telenesti, Orhei, Drochia, Cahul etc.

Ion Perju, acting Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, made the statement today.

"Consequently, until 28 June important segments of infrastructure were affected, as well as imposing areas of orchards, sowings (over 7 thousand hectares), including 1642 ha of corn, 1852 ha of sunflower, 1073 ha of wheat, 1088 ha of barley, 1467 ha of sugar beet, 51 ha of rapeseed, 17 ha of vegetables, 5 ha of groves, 197 ha of other crops, 367 ha of vines and 2192 ha of orchards ”, he said.

According to the official, the total material damage registered to the agricultural crops is over 162 million lei, but the evaluations still continue. "In addition to this amount, only in the Ștefan Vodă district, the damages documented operatively on June 26, on areas of about two thousand hectares, amounted to 65 million lei and the continuous assessment", the minister said.

"Given the existing climate, the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment requests the Government of the Republic of Moldova to allocate financial resources, estimated at 246 million lei, from the Reserve Fund, to partially compensate for damage to rural infrastructure and the agricultural sector of natural disasters ", he said.
