Ungheni, Orhei started program agenda for growth poles cities

Chisinau, 2 July /MOLDPRES/- The Regional Development Agency (ADR) Center will support the municipalities of Ungheni and Orhei in ensuring implementation of the National Program for development of cities - growth poles in Moldova (2021-2027).

The specialists of the Agency and the representatives of the administration of the two localities discussed yesterday about the action plan on implementation of the program this year for the two selected cities from the Center Region. The main topic was the stages of elaboration of the Local Operational Plans. "These plans will be implemented by the Program Implementation Units, created within each municipal public administration, in partnership and cooperation with ADR Center, as well as in collaboration with local institutions and non-governmental structures," said ADR Center.

The program aims at the socio-economic development of six municipalities - regional centers in the Republic of Moldova, including the municipalities of Ungheni and Orhei, in order to transform them into growth poles. They must be able to support the expansion of development in neighboring rural areas and ensure employment, so that the network of cities-poles of regional growth becomes attractive to residents, entrepreneurs and visitors. The specific objectives of the Program aim to improve the mobility and quality of access infrastructure with adjacent areas; developing and equipping economic support infrastructures and services to boost competitiveness; urban revitalization and development of public space infrastructure; modernization of technical-municipal infrastructure and public utility networks.

The Program, approved by the government in December 2020 was set up to ensure the implementation of the Law on the approval of the National Strategy for Regional Development for 2016-2020. The implementation of the Program will support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development in the country.
