Chisinau, 12 July /MOLDPRES/-  President Maia Sandu today sent a message of gratitude to citizens who voted in snap parliamentary elections on 11 July.

"Thank you to those who went to the polls and supported the strengthening of democracy in Moldova. Our democracy is still young, with many problems, but the example of those who, in the country or in the diaspora, have overcome all obstacles to go to the polls is a reason to trust that we will succeed in building a free country and a state that takes care of citizens ", said Sandu.

She said that in these elections it was confirmed once again that some state institutions are far from meeting the expectations of the citizens. "Some institutions that dealt with the organization of elections are returned with the political key, ignore the laws and endanger the organization of free and fair elections. If we want to become a strong democracy, such things must not be repeated ", the President said.

"As president, I promise you that in the coming years, I will do everything in my power to make it easier for people to vote, without pressure and without electoral corruption. This is a priority for the future Parliament and I hope to be able to work with a majority of honest people to make voting day a celebration of democracy for every citizen. I hope today will be the end of a difficult era for Moldova. The challenges are great, and people need results ", concluded Maia Sandu.

On 11 July, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova participated in the snap parliamentary elections.
