Public Health Advisory Council convened in meeting

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/-  Public Health Advisory Council convened in a meeting at government, chaired by acting prime minister Aureliu Ciocoi. Several topics were on the agenda of the meeting, including increasing the vaccination rate of the population and setting measures to manage the epidemiological situation caused by the spread of new strains of SARS-CoV-2, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Regarding vaccine coverage, only 9.14% of the general population was vaccinated with both doses, and 14.31% have a single dose administered. Among medical workers, the vaccination rate with both doses is 80.02%. From the total volume of 1,248,090 doses of vaccine received by our country, since the beginning of the vaccination campaign and until now - 803,049 doses have been used.

MSMPS State Secretary Igor Curov said that the impact of vaccination is obviously beneficial, and immediately after the start of the campaign, the morbidity among the medical staff decreased by 90%. The lowest vaccination rate among the population is still registered in the Transnistrian region and Gagauzia.

At the same time, the members of the Council examined the level of expansion in the Republic of Moldova of derived strains - Delta, Delta + and Lambda, which is much more aggressive compared to previous strains of COVID-19. Specialists do not rule out the emergence of new versions of the COVID strain due to the growing waves of infection in the states in the region. In this context, the importance to boost the vaccination process of people was reiterated. It is only solution to overcome the pandemic crisis. The possibility of resorting to compulsory vaccination of certain professional categories, the activity of which involves direct contact with citizens, was discussed.
