Parliament-90 MPs returned to plenary hall for festive event on Independence Day

Chisinau, 27 August /MOLDPRES/- Members of the Parliament-90 Association, former deputies and signatories of the Declaration of Independence were honored today inside the Legislature. Among the guests of honor were first President of the Republic of Moldova Mircea Snegur and ministers from the first Government, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

Speaker Igor Grosu handed over to the former state dignitaries Honorary Diplomas of the Legislature. The distinctions were awarded as a sign of deep gratitude and high appreciation for outstanding contributions to the defense and consolidation of independence and democratic development of the Republic of Moldova, for special merits in preserving and promoting national values, and on the 30th anniversary of independence of Moldova.

Igor Grosu said that the invitation for the former deputies, signatories of the Declaration of Independence, was a sincere start, coming from the desire to express gratitude under today's extraordinary holiday.

"I tell my colleagues and children that we, the current generation, have the luxury of being your contemporaries, of those who were the protagonists and eyewitnesses of the events of 30 years ago. You had the courage to make a historic decision that you can tell us about today from the first source. We wanted to invite you all, regardless of the political visions of then or now, it is important to lead by national priorities ", he said.

The MPs wanted to specify they are invited for the first time in the last years in the Legislature, in full composition, in such an important context. They thanked the speaker for the gesture of respect and gratitude. The former deputies assured Igor Grosu of all the support and determination to share the experience with the new Parliament in which they put their hope and trust.

"I assure you that you have our full support from those who laid the foundations of the young state of the Republic of Moldova. Your success is our success, of the people, of the Republic of Moldova ", ex-president Mircea Snegur said.

On August 27, 1991, tens of thousands of Moldovans, gathered in the Great National Assembly in central Chisinau, asked the Parliament to vote for independence. The members of the first Parliament voted on that day the Declaration of Independence, with the nominal vote of the 278 deputies.
