Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/- Chisinau city hall will hold a meeting this week with local apple growers to buy fruit for municipal schools and hospitals.
Mayor Ion Ceban was outraged that local apple growers did not have the opportunity to sell their produce and were forced to throw it away. "It is inadmissible to dispose of local fruit production. Our fruits are known for their high quality," said the mayor.
He asked Deputy Mayors Olga Ursu and Angela Cutasevici to identify financial resources and organize a meeting with Moldovan farmers to purchase fruit for schools and hospitals in Chisinau. "The city hall needs to identify financial resources to lend a helping hand to local farmers," Ion Ceban said.
According to statistics, the Republic of Moldova is among the top ten apple exporting countries in Europe, with an annual production of over 500 thousand tons.
