Economics minister meets World Bank Country Director for Moldova

Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/- Economics Minister Sergiu Gaibu had a discussion with representatives of the World Bank - Inguna Dobraja, Country Director of the World Bank for Moldova and Carolina Odobescu, Senior Country Officer.
The officials examined the ministry's priorities for the next period, and the situation of the projects carried out with the support of the World Bank. Supporting the business environment, especially the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, attracting investment and creating new jobs were important topics on the agenda, sources from the Ministry of Economy said.
"We want to increase investment to keep jobs and create new ones, but also to increase the provision of online services, which will reduce contacts between companies and government officials, thus increasing transparency," he said.
The World Bank's Country Director reiterated the institution's readiness to support the reform process to ensure economic growth and improve the living standards of the population.
The Competitiveness Improvement Project, currently being supported by the World Bank, aims to strengthen export competitiveness, reduce administrative burdens for companies and improve access to finance. The project also provides for a private sector support component in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
