Moldovan president discusses with Council of Europe officials

Chisinau, 20 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu and President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, as well as the members of the High-Level Working Group of the Council of Europe for Justice Reform, on a visit to Chisinau on these days, today discussed real actions on reforming the justice sector, the presidential press service has reported.     

„We had an open discussion about the actions of real reformation of justice, which started along with the colleagues from the government and parliament. I said that the amendments made to the laws in the field had the principal goal to clean the system and ensure a corps of honest prosecutors and judges. Only in this way we will edify the rule of law state which we want and will give the people the feeling of justice,’’ President Maia Sandu said.  

As for the latest developments at the Prosecutor’s Office, the head of state said that the presidential institution was interested in the investigations, in which the suspended prosecutor general, as well as other people from the system are concerned be carried out with the observance of all legal norms and with maximal transparency.   

Maia Sandu reaffirmed determination to advance in the process of cleaning the justice sector and give its integrity, as this is the most important commitment towards the citizens and the key condition for regaining the trust of the people from Moldova.
