Several educational institutions to receive hazelnut orchards as gifts

Chisinau, 11 November /MOLDPRES/- Several educational institutions in the Republic of Moldova will receive as a gift a hazelnut orchard, following a contest held on November 1-10, by the company Euroalun in Chisinau, member of the Employers' Association Alliance of the Value Chain in Organic Agriculture in Moldova (MOVCA).

The contest is organized for the fourth year in a row, and at this edition the winners will be selected based on the number of comments added by students, pupils, teachers or other representatives of the educational institution when posting about the contest on the Facebook page Euroalun - Alune Moldova.

Within the project, the students of the middle and high school classes together with their teachers are involved in greening activities by planting and caring for hazelnut orchards. They also benefit from an introductory lesson in sustainable agriculture, waste management, tree and shrub planting techniques, organized together with experts from Italy.

The winners of the previous editions are: Dante Alighieri Theoretical High School from Chisinau (2018), Emil Nicula Theoretical High School from Mereni village, Anenii Noi district (2019), Gheorghe Palade Theoretical High School from Puhoi village, Ialoveni district, Faculty of Biology and Pedology of the State University of Moldova USM, as well as Gangura Gymnasium, Ialoveni district (2020).

The action is part of the project An orchard as a gift, implemented by the company Euroalun, and which aims to educate growing generations in the spirit of a healthy environment and a healthy diet. According to experts, hazelnuts are rich in antioxidants, proteins, vitamins, fiber, minerals, are good for the heart, reduce inflammation, improve the health of the digestive tract and brain functions. 

To date, over 250,000 hazelnut seedlings have been planted in our country.
