Moldova further speaks out for eastern partrners' rapprochement with EU in political, economic, sectoral fields

Chisinau, 15 November /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu, along with his counterparts from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and the European Union member states, today in Brussels brought for discussion perspectives for the development of the Eastern Partnership in the next years. The meeting was chaired by European Commission Vise-President, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell Fontelles, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.        

At the meeting, the Moldovan official spoke out for continuing the rapprochement of the partner states with EU in the political, economic and sectoral fields.  

„I stressed the importance of reconfirmation by EU of recognizing the European aspirations and the European choice of the interested partner countries, as well as of the support for the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of all our countries. I expressed also interest in deepening the cooperation between the European Union and the associated partners in the sectors where there are some common challenges in the implementation of the Association Agreements,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.    

As for the economic and sectoral dimension, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu declared for paying special attention to the sectors with significant impact on citizens, such as a deeper integration into the EU Single Market, cutting the tariffs for roaming between the partner states and the EU member states, as well the connection of interested partners in the Singe Euro Payments Area (SEPA).  

In the context, the Moldovan diplomacy head called on for a more systemic cooperation in the sectors of health, transport and energy connectivity, as well as a closer dialogue in the security field.

The today’s meeting of foreign affairs ministers is held in the context of the preparations for the sixth Summit of the Eastern Partnership, due in Brussels on 15 December 2021. The priorities of the Eastern Partnership’s development for the years to come are to be covered in the joint statement of the high-level meeting.
