Moldova-Romania agreement on mutual recognition of diplomas signed in Bucharest

Chisinau, 23 November /MOLDPRES/ - The agreement on the mutual recognition of diplomas, certificates and scientific titles between the governments of Romania and Moldova was signed by Education and Research Minister Anatolie Topala and his Romanian counterpart Sorin Campeanu in Bucharest today. The event took place during an official visit to Romania by President Maia Sandu.  

The document establishes the ways of recognizing the types of education acts at all levels of education, beginning with the general education and ending with the scientific and scientific and didactic titles. At the same time, the agreement will facilitate the academic and professional mobility from both states, as well as the recognition of the education acts got in Moldova internationally.  

The agreement also establishes regulations for the reciprocal recognition of the education acts got till Moldova’s joint the Bologna Process. Thus, the new agreement establishes the recognition and equalizing of the education acts, released after the graduation of general education institution with the duration of education of 10 or 11 years, just as it was till the introduction of the lyceum education of 12 years. The new provisions allow the holders of the education documents to have direct access to the higher education from Romania.    

The Treaty also establishes special stipulations which regulate the mutual recognition of the diplomas and certificates got upon the graduation of the post-university institutions, of post-graduate specialization education and post-graduate qualification courses issued by both states.  

The current agreement will replace the one signed in 1998 and the need of signing a new treaty was prompted by the continuous process of modernization and transformation of the education systems of Moldova and Romania, as well as of improving the normative basis which regulates the education process from both countries.
