ANSA checked seed material used by agricultural producers this year

Chisinau, Dec. 13 / MOLDPRES /- This year, Moldovan farmers sowed agricultural crops on a total area of about 990 thousand hectares, including autumn crops - 345 thousand ha and spring crops - 645 thousand ha. In the autumn of 2021 alone, about 290,000 ha of crops were sown, including 200,000 ha of wheat and 65,000 ha of barley, and most of the land was sown with quality controlled seeds.
Throughout the year, the inspectors of the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) supervised the agricultural process, being trained in the control, inspection and certification of seed and planting material.
"Every year about three thousand tons of corn seeds and about eight hundred tons of sunflower are exported, being exported to the Russian Federation, Belarus, Ukraine, Romania. Vegetable seeds are exported to the Netherlands, Belarus, Russia ", ANSA said.
According to the Agency, also in 2021, a planting material was produced and certified: orchard - about 8.8 million pieces; bacifer - about 3.1 million pieces; ornamental - about 20 million pieces; viticulture - about 3.3 million grafted vines.
"About 20-25% of the total volume produced is destined for export. The countries where the planting material is exported are: Belarus, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia ", according to the quoted source.
The National Agency for Food Safety states that it directly participates in the tasks of production and multiplication of seed and planting material, by verifying them. "The main objective is to maintain the varietal authenticity, the biological purity, the preservation of the health of the material intended for use in the establishment of plantations", an ANSA communiqué reads.
