Moldovan sappers destroyed over 1,300 explosives last year

Chisinau, 10 January /MOLDPRES/- National Army sappers found and destroyed 1,335 explosives and 27,868 cartridges in 2021.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the sappers were most often requested in Stefan Voda, Orhei and Ungheni. The largest missions took place in Răscăieți and Răscăieţii Noi localities, Ştefan Vodă district, where the military detected and neutralized 571 explosive objects and over 14,300 cartridges.

During the same period, the Ștefan cel Mare Motorized Infantry Brigade sappers were requested in Plop-Ştiubei village, Causeni district. Following a field search, the military identified 198 explosives and 1,100 cartridges.

Among the explosive objects found in 2021 there were anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, hand grenades, warheads, grenade launchers, artillery shells and aviation bombs. All ammunition dates back to World War II and posed an increased risk to citizens.
