Experts in environmental protection from two banks of Dniester return to dialogue after long break

Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/ - An online meeting of experts for environmental protection from both banks of Dniester took place today after a long pause (the last meeting was held on 9 July 2020), with the taking part of representatives of the participants in the 5+2 format of negotiations, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.    

The head of the working group, state secretary at the Environment Ministry Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov coordinated the meeting on behalf of Chisinau.  

The agenda of the discussions included topical issues in the ecological sphere, among which the efficient management of the water resources from the Dniester river basin, carrying out exchange of information in the hydrometeorological sector, the need to coordinate measures of the collection and discharge of water from/to the Dniester river, coordinating the volumes discharged from the Dubasari Hydro-technical Knot, monitoring the exchange of data on the quality of surface waters and atmospheric air, including on the level of their pollution, etc.  

At the same time, the participants in the meeting reiterated the need to reestablish free access of representatives of the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) to hydrometric stations placed in the perimeter of the Transnistrian region, in order to periodically make measurements of the flow of the Dniester river for monitoring the hydrological regime of surface waters and undertaking subsequent actions necessary.   

Also, the participants tackled the work of the enterprises from the Transnistrian region which are registered in the State Register of legal entities, carry out external import-export operations, including in European Union member states, according to the provisions of the Government Decision No 815/2005 and which have activity licences issued by Moldova’s competent authorities. They said that, for these enterprises to get environment authorizations on behalf of the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection, national inspectors need to be given free access to the site, in order to assess the situation in a qualified way and find out the meeting of the processes of the rigours established in the normative framework in force and the international requirements Moldova adhered to.
