Exhibition dedicated to departed Moldovan writer opened at National Library

Chisinau, 9 February /MOLDPRES/ - The National Library of Moldova (BNRM), in partnership with the National Agency of Archives, has organized an exhibition of books and periodical publications titled, Andrei Lupan, the writer of the times which created him. The event is occasioned by the 110th birthday anniversary of the academician, publicist, translator, titular member of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences, laureate of the State Prize of the Soviet Moldova (RSSM), Andrei Lupan.      

Contacted by MOLDPRES, BNRM director Elena Pintilei said that about 130 documents were presented at the exhibition: volumes of poems, journalism from then writer’s early works in various periods, books for children, translations from the universal literary heritage, the author’s works translated in other languages, newspaper and magazines with the protagonist’s works and articles about Andrei Lupan.  

Andrei Lupan was born in the Mihuleni village, Orhei county, presently Soldanesti district, on 15 February 1912.  He finished the Agricultural School from Cucuruzeni (1929), the Vine Growing School from Chisinau (1934), the M.V. Frunze Agricultural Institute from Chisinau (1941). In 1932, Lupan debuted with the poem, Biography, in the Bucharest-based periodical publication, The Literary and Artistic Truth. After the World War II, Andrei Lupan edited more books of poems, the play, Lumina (The Light) (1948), a volume of journalism, Works in three volumes (1973). Lupan translated works of writers Shakespeare, Pushkin, Lermontov, Nekrasov, Shevchenko, Gorki, etc. In 1967, Andrei Lupan was awarded the State Prize of RSSM and in 1975 – the State Prize of the USSR. He worked as president of the Leadership Committee of the Writers’ Union of RSSM, president of the Supreme Soviet (local parliament) of RSSM. The writer died in Chisinau on 27 August 1992.      

 The exhibition will be opened till 14 March.
