Moldovan parliament made amendments to mechanism for selecting candidates for position of CSM, CSP member

Chisinau, Feb. 10 / MOLDPRES /- The mechanism for selecting candidates for the position of member of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) and their specialized bodies has been amended. A bill to this effect was adopted today by Parliament in its second reading.

The project aims to create a specialized commission to assess the integrity of candidates for administrative positions in the CSM and CSP. Based on the specifics of the Evaluation Committee, as well as the need to exclude any form of control or interference in its work, the Evaluation Committee will have functional independence and administrative autonomy.

The evaluation committee will be made up of six members. Three of them will be appointed by the development partners. The others will be proposed by Parliament, respecting the principle of proportionality between the majority and the opposition, starting from the number of seats obtained.

The integrity of the candidates will be assessed on the basis of extensive research on professional activity, compliance with ethical and professional standards, as well as the lack of dubious actions, which cause suspicions of corruption. The Evaluation Committee will also analyze the assets of the candidates and those close to them, their background, as well as the candidates' income and expenses.
