Moldovan foreign affairs minister has phone conversation with Swedish counterpart

Chisinau, 9 March /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu today had a phone conversation with Swedish Foreign Affairs Minister Ann Linde, to discuss the security situation in the region and the way the refugees’ flow was managed, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.  

Deputy PM Nicu Popescu thanked the Swedish official for the quick answer to Moldova’s call, as well as for the support provided through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The Kingdom of Sweden was among the first states to inform about its willingness to provide assistance to Moldova, with the assistance on behalf of Sweden consisting of tents with illumination and heating systems along with an electricity generator, which are to reach Chisinau this week.     

„We were in consensus as to the support by our countries of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders. My interlocutor said that Sweden would further provide the assistance needed for managing the flow of refugees from Ukraine and we discussed possibility to relocate the people who took refuge to Moldova,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.    

The Moldovan diplomacy head reiterated that the European integration was Moldova’s strategic irreversible priority and offered thanks to Sweden for the constant backing for the country’s European path.
