Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today visited the joint border crossing point from Palanca, Stefan Voda district, where border policemen and customs employees from Moldova and Ukraine work together, in order to ease the cross-border traffic, the presidential press service has reported.

In discussions with border policemen, employees of the Migration and Asylum Bureau, as well as with volunteers who meet refugees with tea and warm food, the head of state thanked everybody for the exemplary organization and effort that has been made during these weeks to help people who flee the war. President Maia Sandu wished courage to the Ukrainian citizens whom she met at the border, telling them that Moldova was ready to provide them with protection and safety in continuation.

At the centre for the selection and accommodation of refugees from Palanca, the head of state discussed with physicians from Stefan Voda, who work there, as well as with Interior Ministry’s employees, who take care of the centre’s work. The centre for the selection and accommodation of refugees from Palanca has a capacity of over 300 people. The refugees from Ukraine receive the essential assistance, food and shelter there.

„I thanked everybody for self-denial and solidarity and I repeatedly expressed appreciation for the way our people mobilized before the tragedy of our neighbours, for the generosity with which we share from our poor wealth we have with those who need support. In these difficult times, we proved to the entire world that we are a small country with a great heart,’’ President Maia Sandu added.
