Moldovan president announces launch of National Local Development Program European Village

Chisinau, March 21 / MOLDPRES /- President Maia Sandu announces the launch of the National Local Development Program European Village, which will support infrastructure projects for localities, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state mentions that town halls can submit project proposals for the construction or modernization of water supply and sewerage systems, for the renovation of kindergartens, schools, houses of culture and other objects of local infrastructure. Proposals can also be made for local business development and energy efficiency, and resources can be obtained for co-financing projects from external funds.

The program will operate on the basis of an open and transparent competition, and project proposals will be evaluated on merit. Community involvement is very important both in the development of projects and in their implementation. "I urge citizens to participate in the process of preparing proposals, to follow closely the work and to ensure that the money allocated to projects is used carefully for the benefit of the community," said Maia Sandu in video message.

This year, the budget of the project program for local development is 470 million lei. Another 300 million lei from the Program have been allocated to regional development projects. "We are talking to external partners about supplementing the program budget with their own funds," the head of state said. According to the president, this summer, several localities will implement projects that will change people's lives for the better, being concrete steps taken by the authorities to modernize communities according to European standards.

"People live well in the European Village. They have tap water, a sewage and waste management system, straight roads and street lights. They send their children to kindergarten or school, have access to quality medical care, care for the environment and can find a job or grow a business in their locality or region. A European Moldova means a country with European villages and towns, where things work and people live in prosperity and peace ", the head of state said.
