Moldovan electoral body organized second round of debates on amending Electoral Code

Chisinau, March 24 / MOLDPRES /- The Central Electoral Authority, together with the Promo-LEX Association and the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, held a second workshop on proposals to amend the Electoral Code.

The second workshop addressed issues related to changes in the procedures for nominating and registering candidates in elections and the regulation of the election campaign in terms of the status of observers and the coverage of elections in the media.

CEC Secretary Alexandr Berlinschi presented proposals to amend the legal provisions on the nomination and registration of candidates, the collection of signatures in support of independent candidates and the initiation of the referendum, as well as the procedure for submitting and verifying subscription lists.

CEC member Ludmila Lupașco presented proposals for improving legislation on monitoring and media coverage of the election campaign. The main changes presented concern the activity, rights and obligations of observers during the election period, as well as the general principles regarding the coverage of elections by the media.

The Central Electoral Commission announced that the next workshop will examine proposals to amend the articles of the Electoral Code aimed at financing political parties and election campaigns and judicial procedures related to monitoring and sanctioning electoral contestants.
