New local elections to be held in 12 settlements of Moldova on 29 May

Chisinau, 25 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has taken note of the Moldovan parliament’s decision, under which, on the period of the emergency state, the organization of new local elections is possible in some administrative and territorial units. Thus, CEC cancelled the decision on suspension of the process of organization of the ballot, earlier planned for 15 May 2022 and established the date of 29 May for the carrying out of local polls in some settlements of Moldova.   

CEC found out the existence of circumstances for the organization of new local elections for a new composition of the commune council of Bobeica, central Hancesti district and also set the date of 29 May for holding the ballot.  

In the context, the central electoral authority approved the calendar schedule for the carrying out of the actions of organization and carrying out of new local elections in 10 settlements of Moldova. The mayor is to be elected in the case of 8 settlements: Ghetlova commune, Orhei district, Horodiste commune, Rezina district; Zastanca village, Soroca district; Moara de Piatra village, Drochia district, Tataresti village, Straseni district; Glinjeni village, Falesti district; Zaicani village, Rascani district and Hagimus village, Causeni district; at the same time, elections for local councils will be held in another two settlements, Lozova commune, Straseni district and Bobeica commune, Hancesti district.   

The electoral period will start on 28 March 2022; subsequently, the electoral constituencies and the hierarchically lower bodies will be created. The period of nominating candidates for the elective offices will begin on 18 April and the electoral campaign will start for each candidate individually beginning with the moment of his/her registration by the electoral council of electoral constituency.
