Chisinau, 25 March /MOLDPRES/ - The government of Italy today provided a consignment of equipment worth 1,775,820 euros to Moldova. It includes the equipment needed for a field camp, with a capacity of 500 people, among which 42 tents, 271 field beds, three generators, illumination towers, heaters.

Attending the ceremony on delivery of the assistance were the state secretary at the Interior Ministry (MAI), Serghei Diaconu, and Italy’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Moldova Lorenzo Tomassoni.

The MAI secretary general thanked the colleagues from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), General Inspectorate of Border Police (IGPF) and Migration and Asylum Bureau (BMA), as well as from other MAI’s subdivisions for the extraordinary effort made to manage the flow of refugees. ‘’I thanked the colleagues from Italy, as well as the Team Europe, who proved that they are always doing their duty and help us in the daily activity. The support which now comes on behalf of Italy’s government is meant to help the refugees, as well as the efforts of administration, so that the foreign citizens feel in safety,’’ Diaconu said.

He noted that, due to the consignment provided, it would be possible to create a new temporary centre for Ukrainian citizens who took refuge to Moldova. On the days to come, employees of Italy’s Civil Protection Department will train rescuers from Moldova to assemble the camp with the equipment brought.

„Italy, along with the entire Europe, backs the courageous effort of Moldova to provide help and assistance to all refugees from Ukraine. We are on a period full of suspense, with many risks; yet, we are stronger and more courageous together,’’ Ambassador Lorenzo Tomassoni said.
