Moldovan, American officials broach cooperation relations

Chisinau, April 19 / MOLDPRES /- On a working visit to Washington DC, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration held a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the MAEIE press service has reported.

The officials approached current issues on the bilateral cooperation agenda, noting the positive dynamics of Moldovan-American relations both politically, economically and commercially, as well as in advancing the reform agenda taken by Chisinau government.

The talks focused on the situation in the region and the joint efforts of our country in the effective management of the humanitarian crisis triggered by the unjustified war in Ukraine. At the same time, the officials reaffirmed the importance of boosting and deepening Moldovan-American relations, including through the Strategic Dialogue, which is an effective platform for turning to good account the potential of Moldovan-American cooperation.

"I am confident that the Strategic Dialogue will contribute to supporting economic development, strengthening democratic institutions, fighting corruption, advancing justice reform, improving the investment climate, promoting digitalization, developing infrastructure, strengthening Moldova's security and energy resilience," said Popescu.

Popescu stressed the importance of US assistance, including through USAID and other US government agencies, in ensuring ongoing processes to modernize the country, and thanked the US government for prompt assistance of $ 130 million for to support continued economic development, the consolidation of democracy, increased energy resilience and the management of the humanitarian crisis.

"I was pleased to receive from the United States the message of appreciation for our country's efforts and generous support for Ukrainian refugees, as well as full support in the process of implementing the country's modernization agenda, managing socio-economic challenges and our irreversible European path", added the minister.

The officials also exchanged views on the current situation in the Eastern European region, as well as recent developments on the Transnistrian issue. In this context, Antony Blinken reiterated the firm message of support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.
