CNA detained two patrol officers for passive corruption

Chisinau, May 5 / MOLDPRES /- Two patrol officers were detained by CNA officers and prosecutors on passive corruption. They allegedly demanded a bribe for failing to document an alleged case of drunk driving.

According to CNA, law enforcement officers stopped a driver who was driving through Drochia district, under the pretext that he was drunk behind the wheel. In the process of verifying the means of transport, the members of the patrol crew allegedly demanded 4,000 lei in order not to document the case. As he did not have the required amount, the driver was allowed to leave, being conditioned to get money as soon as possible. In a short time, the driver of the car allegedly sent 200 euros to the law enforcement officers.

Following the denunciation of the facts, CNA initiated a criminal case for passive corruption. As a result of special investigative measures and criminal prosecution, the two police officers were detained for 72 hours. If found guilty, they risk up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to 400,000 lei and deprivation of the right to hold certain public office for a term of 7 to 10 years.
