Chisinau, May 13 / MOLDPRES /- The Ministry of Health came today with recommendations for parents in the context of the registration in the Republic of Moldova of a probable case of acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in children.
In a statement, the ministry urged parents to pay attention to the signs of acute hepatitis, such as jaundice (yellowing of the face and sclera, dark urine), but also to the symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders - nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
To confirm or deny a probable case of acute hepatitis of unidentified etiology, the necessary tests will be performed to exclude the presence of common viruses that cause acute viral hepatitis and the presence of toxic drug hepatitis.
Doctors recommend good hygiene practices, such as regular hand washing, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces that can be frequently touched by children and toys.
World Health Organization data show that acute hepatitis of unknown origin can affect children of any age, from one month to 16 years.
