Moldovan foreign affairs minister has meeting with state secretary of Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs

Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with a state secretary of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, Livia Leu, on the sidelines of the 132nd Session of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, held in Turin, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.

The officials discussed the present stage of the Moldovan-Swiss relations. The sides analyzed the perspective of strengthening the bilateral commercial and economic relations through possibility of diversifying the export markets and negotiation of the free trade agreement between the states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and Moldova.

The meeting occasioned also an exchange of opinions on the regional security situation, in the context of the war in Ukraine.

„We touched upon the ambitious European integration of Moldova, which means reforms, institutions’ modernization according to the European standards, in the spirit of full respect for the principle of meritocracy,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.
