New local elections held in 10 settlements of Moldova

Chisinau, 29 May /MOLDPRES/ - Over 22,000 voters today are expected to come to vote at the new local elections held in ten settlements of Moldova.
According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), the mayor is to be elected in eight settlements: Ghetlova commune, central Orhei district; Horodiste commune, northern Rezina district; Zastanca village, northern Soroca district; Moara de Piatra village, northern Drochia district; Tataresti village, central Straseni district; Glinjeni village, western Falesti district, Zaicani village, north-western Rascani district and Hagimus village, south-eastern Causeni district.
Thirty people run for those eight mandates of mayor. Twenty three of them are nominated by political formations and another seven ones are independent candidates.
At the same time, elections for the local councils will be organized for another two settlements: Lozova commune, Straseni district and Bobeica commune, central Hancesti district. Eight applications were registered there (seven files submitted by political parties and one application on behalf of an independent candidate).
Eighteen polling stations were organized for the ballot. They will be opened starting from 7:00 till 21:00.
About 60 national observers were accredited for these elections. Forty six observers were accredited on behalf of the Promo-LEX Association and the inferior electoral bodies accredited 13 observers on behalf of the electoral contenders.
