Moldovan PM meets Spanish counterpart

Chisinau, 3 June /MOLDPRES/ - The extension of the bilateral cooperation, implementation of Moldova’s European agenda, promotion of strategic investments, the challenges faced by Moldova in the process of integrating the Ukrainian refugees were the main subjects of a today’s discussion held between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and PM of Spain Pedro Sanchez, on an official visit to Chisinau, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

The sides exchanged opinions on the regional situation, in the wake of the war in Ukraine, and spoke out for the reestablishment of peace and territorial integrity of the neighbor country. Natalia Gavrilita referred to the Moldovan authorities’ actions to manage the flow of refugees and thanked the Spanish government for the assistance provided to Moldova to diminish the effects of the humanitarian crisis.   

Gavrilita also emphasized the bad economic consequences which had hit Moldova following the disturbance of the supply chains and the exports. The Moldovan PM stressed that the support of the European states in diversifying the export market and strengthening the commercial and economic relations was essential in these moments of crisis. Natalia Gavrilita also said that, despite the difficulties, the government of Moldova continued the process of reforms, in line with the Association Agreement with the European Union.      

„Moldova wants to be part of the free and democratic world. We make considerable effort to get our country closer to the European Union. We want to use this window of opportunity, which was opened with the aligning of all state’s institutions in one direction, the one of the European future. This is also the wish of the citizens, who gave us a vote of confidence to fulfill this mission,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.   

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez welcomed the Moldovan authorities’ efforts in the management of multiple crises faced by Moldova and reiterated Spain’s support for Chisinau’s European agenda. The Spanish side also expressed openness for the deepening of the cooperation in the investment sector.

The officials also touched upon the problems as to the management of the energy crisis faced by Moldova and voiced the need to consolidate the efforts for developing the renewable energy sector.  

The two PMs highlighted the positive dynamic of the bilateral commercial and economic relations, as Spain is among the first 15 important investors of Moldova. The sides also noted that the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the bilateral relations between Moldova and Spain would be marked in next July and agreed on actions to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
