Moldovan premier meets business people from State of Qatar

Chisinau, 12 June /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita has met the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the State of Qatar and  Qatari business people, during her official visit to Doha. The principal subjects tackled were focused on projects of investments in Moldova and possibilities of export of agro-food products to Qatar, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

The PM said that the commercial and economic opportunities between the two states were not exploited at the maximal level. To identify new perspectives of cooperation, the organization of business forums and visits by businesspeople from Qatar to Moldova is welcome. The prime minister invited companies from Qatar to make investments in Moldova and referred to efforts undertaken by the cabinet to turn Moldova into a more attractive destination for investors.  

The sides discussed the security and economic consequences triggered by the war in Ukraine, the uncertainties faced by the business people for short and medium term, as well as Moldova’s efforts to become country candidate of accession to the European Union. The Moldovan PM referred to the progress in the reformation of justice and combating corruption, with supremacy of law being an essential condition for attracting qualitative investments. A fair justice gives predictability to foreign investors and this provides the economic growth and jobs. Natalia Gavrilita touched upon opportunities in the development of the IT sector, automotive industry, agro-food complex, pharmaceutical sector, etc.   

The prime minister also talked about the changes in the fiscal policy and other pro-business measures on which the government works, in order to create proper conditions for developing business. The PM expressed confidence that the effort made would yield results for the country’s economy and would enhance the revolutions of the economic relations between Moldova and Qatar.  

At the same time, the sides stressed the importance of the launch of a direct flight Doha-Chisinau-Doha, which would connect Moldova to the circulation of transport from the Middle East.  

Following the discussions, the interlocutors also agreed on fostering the cooperation in the segment of digital transformation; taking over and implementation of good practices for the holding of workshops; promotion of export instruments through backing local enterprises, in order to integrate into new sales markets (through exhibitions, international workshops, meetings).
