Parliaments of Moldova, Romania adopt joint declaration

Chisinau, 18 June /MOLDPRES/ - The parliaments of Moldova and Romania adopted a joint declaration at a solemn meeting today. The declaration regards the bilateral cooperation in diverse sectors, the country’s European integration and the security developments in the region, in the context of the war in Ukraine, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.  

The declaration reiterates the unconditional support provided during years by all political forces from Romania for the development, democratic consolidation and European integration of Moldova. Also, the declaration pointed out the common goal as to the implementation of the strategic, bilateral projects, including the inter-connections in the fields of energy, transport and infrastructure.  

The document emphasizes the solid commitment of Moldova’s authorities for the implementation of reforms in the key fields, among which the justice, combating corruption, strengthening of the rule of law state, good governance and optimization of the public administration. The declaration adopted also reads that Romania will continue providing constant support in approaches of getting the capacity of state candidate and advancement of the European integration of Moldova. At the same time, Romania will back the speeding up of the adoption of the standards and regulations compatible with the EU norms, especially in the agricultural sector, which can lead to the enhancement of Moldova’s economic competitiveness and to as wide as possible access to the European common market.     

The sides agreed on the boosting of the bilateral cooperation, including through the adoption of a joint action plan of the two countries’ parliaments, meant to support the agenda of Moldova’s transformation, the transposition of the European legislation, transfer of expertise and advancement on the way of European integration.

The document approved today refers also to the security developments in the region. The lawmakers express deep concern about the regional context and firmly condemn the illegal unprovoked and unjustified aggression of Russia against Ukraine. At the same time, the document welcomes the exemplary way the Chisinau and Bucharest authorities, along with the civil society and the citizens manage the large number of refugees from Ukraine. ‘’Moldova reconfirms, including through these efforts, that it is a state with European vocation, naturally sharing the values on which the European Union is based,’’ reads the joint declaration of the Moldovan and Romanian parliaments.
