Moldovan president meets delegation of Austrian MPs

Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met members of the parliamentary friendship group, Austria – Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, led by MP Helmut Brandstätter, on a working visit to Chisinau, the presidential press service has reported.   

The discussion was focused on the security and humanitarian situation in the region and Moldova’s Euro-integration efforts, in the context of the application on accession to EU and the favourable opinion of the European Commission on giving the status of candidate to Moldova. According to the Austrian lawmakers, the Vienna parliament and government support Moldova’s European integration and are confident in a positive decision of the EU member states at the European Council due on 23-24 June.     

The head of state thanked Austria both for the support for development, provided to Moldova during years, and for the support during the Covid pandemic or, more recently, to back refugees from Ukraine. The delegation members appreciated the way Moldova had managed the flow of refugees, proving solidarity and European spirit. They reiterated Austria’s willingness to support Moldova on the road of transformation, especially for combating corruption and reforming the justice, as well as for continuing the economic cooperation in the regional development sector.
