Well-known Moldovan panpipe player marks birthday

Chisinau, 24 July /MOLDPRES/ - A well-known panpipe player, instrumentalist of the Folclor folk music orchestra of the Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic, People’s Artist Vasile Iovu marks his 72nd birthday anniversary today.      

Vasile Iovu was born in the Bardar village, central Ialoveni district, in 1950. During 1967-71, he studied at the Gavriil Musicescu Music Academy. In the last year of lyceum in 1966, Iovu was invited to the Veselia orchestra by violin player Dumitru Blajinu. After graduating the faculty, Vasile Iovu cooperated with more bands. Since 1972, Iovu has been soloist and instrumentalist of the Folclor Folk Music Orchestra of the National Television and Radio, presently of the Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic from Chisinau.      

Vasile Iovu is the first professional panpipe singer from Moldova, the first teacher of panpipe, the founder of the panpipe class of the Music, Theatre and Fine Arts Academy. During his work, Iovu created a true Academy of Panpipe, educating a string of young panpipe singers. He made tours to over 35 countries and is author of more than 200 written, arranged and sung works. In 2000, Vasile Iovu was awarded the Order of the Republic and the National Prize. In 2015, he was awarded the Cultural Merit Order of Romania. Vasile Iovu is honorary citizen of the Chisinau municipality.
