Chisinau, 29 July /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova marks the Constitution Day today. On this occasion, the parliament’s museum inaugurated an exhibition of publications dedicated to the Constitution, which was adopted on 29 July 1994.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu conveyed a congratulatory message on this occasion. ‘’Moldova’s Constitution is the document with which the Moldovans legitimated the sovereignty and independence of their country, which reads that the state is democratic, with free people, whose rights must be observed and protected,’’ the speaker said.

At the parliament’s museum, visitors can see the first editions of the Constitution, as well as a special protocol edition of Moldova’s Constitution, provided to the legislative institution by the president of the Constitutional Court. At the same time, documents from the parliament’s archive were displayed, which contain information about the procedure of adoption and the results of the voting of Moldova’s Constitution.

At the same time, the exhibition shows also the copies of the Moldova Suverana newspaper from 30 July 1994, which evoke the speeches given by the then parliament speaker, Petru Lucinschi, and Moldovan president Mircea Snegur at the parliament meeting from 29 July 1994, the decree on the promulgation of Moldova’s Constitution, as well as photos from the procedure of solemn signing of the text of Moldova’s Constitution by the MPs.

Adopted following a consultative referendum, held on 6 March 1994, Moldova’s supreme law was voted in parliament on 29 July 1994. President Mircea Snegur promulgated the Constitution immediately after its voting, just in the parliament’s session hall.

Moldova’s Constitution is made up of seven titles, each of which is divided into chapters and sections. All stipulations of the Constitution are of equal importance, representing a manifesto of the achievements and desiderata which must be implemented.
