National economy made more progress over past year

Chisinau, 9 Aug. /MOLDPRES/- In the last year, the Republic of Moldova has faced the largest number of overlapping crises since independence, but despite these challenges and difficulties, the national economy has made more progress, according to the Minister of Economy, Sergiu Gaibu, who yesterday presented the institution's achievements report , after one year of mandate.

According to the official, 2021 ended with a growth of 13.9%, and the first quarter of 2022, despite external shocks, recorded a growth in real terms of 1.1% compared to the same period of 2021.

"Industry, after the decrease of -10.4% in April, registered an increase of 13.2% in May, thus generating an increase of 2.6% for the first 5 months of the current year. Also, turnover in the transport sector increased by 39.6% for the first 5 months of this year. Railway transport increased by almost 50%, naval transport by 2.5 times, road transport by +42.3%. The volume of investments in immovable assets increased by 12.6%, totaling approximately 4.9 billion lei in the first quarter of the current year, the largest increase being recorded in engineering constructions + 51.2%, non-residential buildings +18.7%, machinery and equipment +2 .7%", revealed Sergiu Gaibu.

At the same time, the Ministry of Economy initiated a series of structural reforms, the most important being the Organization for the Development of Entrepreneurship, as well as the reorganization of the Agency for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance into the State Inspectorate for the Supervision of Non-Food Products and Consumer Protection.

For the next period, the Ministry of Economy proposes to continue promoting several projects, including: "easy business" projects; Creation of the Sustainable Economy Acceleration and Development Fund (FADES); completing the promotion of the e-commerce digitization package; completing the promotion of the IT park optimization package; Creation of the park for international business services (BPO); Elaboration of the economic diplomacy strategy; Elaboration and promotion of the National Digital Economy Development Program; Reforming the quality infrastructure and improving the network of national laboratories; Elaboration and promotion of the National Industrial Development Program; Reduction of customs duties on the import of some raw materials used in national production.

The government led by Natalia Gavriliţa began its mandate on August 6, 2021, when it was sworn in.
