PM meets members of Local Authorities Congress from Moldova

Chisinau, 6 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today met members of the Local Authorities’ Congress from Moldova (CALM), the parliament’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The participants in the meeting emphasized the importance of maintaining an active dialogue between the government and the local public administration, in order to further contribute to the quick settlement of the present problems in settlements and development of communities.   

In discussions, the PM noted that the strengthening of the partnership with the local public administration remained a priority and the enhancement of the authorities’ receptiveness to the citizens’ needs was the basic task of this cooperation.  

„In all my visits to the territory, I want to necessarily have a meeting with the district’s mayors. I know the current problems and after each visit, once I return to the government, I discuss them with my colleagues to find solutions. I want to say that we have already results and we will continue working, in order to achieve the common goal – improving the quality of living of our citizens,’’ the prime minister said.

Natalia Gavrilita gave as example more problems signaled by representatives of local public administrations (APL), which have already been solved. Thus, beginning with the 2022 year, the collections of taxes for roads’ use represents sources of oncome of local budgets, which considerably enhances the mayors’ capacities to finance infrastructure projects. The cabinet also approved a draft which sees the switch of the assets transmitted from the account of the value shares from the patrimony of the former agricultural enterprises to the public property of the administrative and territorial units. At the same time, Natalia Gavrilita referred also to the issue of the legal regime of lakes, which will be settled through the approval of a Government Decision at a cabinet meeting due on 7 September.      

Local public authorities’ representatives tackled more subjects on providing citizens with fire wood, the way of establishing a temporary moratorium on the employments of staff from APL, as well as the preparation of APL’s reform. A special subject was the payment of salaries in the public sector. In the context, the prime minister said that this was a problem both at the local level and at the central one. Gavrilita noted that, to improve the situation, in September, the cabinet would come up with extraordinary measures, which take into account the APL’s budgetary capacities. Among them, there is the increase in salaries to the public sector employees and the providing by the government of a one-off assistance worth 3,000 lei to the public sector employees with a salary lower than 15,000 lei.
