Chisinau, 17 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today participated in the Republican Festival of Ethnic Minorities, held in the southern Taraclia city. The event started with a ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to Stephen the Great in the city’s centre and continued with a string of activities dedicated to the holiday, such as the parade of national costumes and artistic bands which came from diverse regions of Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

In his speech given at the festival’s inauguration, titled Unity through Diversity this year, the prime minister welcomed the representatives of all nationalities who participated in the event and expressed gratitude for their firm wish to preserve the traditions, to conserve the past and value the values inherited from the ancestors.

„Only by knowing our past, respecting the present, we can together edify a future. No matter the language we speak, we everybody have a heart, our blood has the same colour, our wishes are the same. As all of us want simple things: heat in our homes, our children to go to school and our elderly people to have a worthy life. We are a really rich nation – as we have each other by our side and, even if we are such different, we manage to stay united, just as the fingers of the same hand,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

The PM referred to the need that, in these troubles times, when a cruel and unjust war is waged at our borders, peace and the unity of our people should be kept: ‘’We call on you for us to remain united, not let yourself manipulated by some politicians who want to divide the country. The true wealth of a people is not in abundance, but in unity. There are no and there were no reasons for inter-ethnic conflicts on our land. The neighbours lived well between them, no matter the language they speak and no matter whether they called their meal kavurma, mangea or tocană (stew). Generosity, hospitability and the care for one’s fellow are qualities all of us have and it is good that it is like this. Now, our goal, of each of you, is to preserve and maintain peace. We can develop only in peace and freedom, we can edify a future only in peace.’’

The prime minister also touched upon the principal measures undertaken by the authorities, for the country to develop in all fields and Moldova’s citizens, no matter the zone where they live, lead a decent living and a modern, European lifestyle: ’’Our way is towards Europe and the European Union will ensure the flourishing of our country and will defend the rights of all people, all nationalities. We are the united people of Moldova and we have chosen the road of civilization and peace!’’

This year, the Republican Festival of Ethnic Minorities has reached the 21st edition.
