Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn, on a working visit to Moldova. The discussion was focused on the latest security developments in the region, as well as on the economic and energy situation of Moldova, as a result of the impact of the war from Ukraine, the presidential press service has reported.
At the meeting, President Maia Sandu stressed that the energy problem was existential for Moldova now, as the country is the most vulnerable state on the European continent in this respect. ‘’We face the risk of interruption of the gas and electricity supplies and the prices for energy resources are volatile and quite high. The authorities take efforts to supply the country with energy and to provide people with compensations; yet, we need the help of our European partners, in order to cope with the unprecedented challenges through which we go,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The head of state expressed gratitude for the support provided by EU in the last months, including the temporary liberalization of the commerce with seven Moldovan agricultural products on the European market and of the road transport of goods.
„Despite the crises, Moldova continues to advance on the way of reforms and the most important achievement is the getting of the status of country candidate for EU. The European integration is our national project, as we want to edify in Moldova a country where the people can live well,’’ Maia Sandu added.
