Moldova, Egypt to boost bilateral cooperation

Chisinau, Oct. 12 /MOLDPRES/- During the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration considered the level and prospects of bilateral cooperation in areas with real potential for development, agreeing to facilitate the dialogue both at governmental and business environment levels, the MAEIE press service has reported.

A special topic of interest was the launch of discussions on signing the Free Trade Agreement between the countries, a process that will significantly contribute to the consolidation of economic relations between Moldova and Egypt.

From the perspective of trade cooperation, the officials agreed to fructify economic opportunities of mutual interest, especially in the agriculture, pharmaceuticals, energy, tourism and infrastructure sectors.

"A concrete step in this regard was the organization of the Egypt-Moldova economic forum, in which I participated together with Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy Vadim Gumene and Director General of the National Food Safety Agency Radu Musteata.

We discussed the latest security developments following Russia's war against Ukraine, as well as the global food crisis, and reiterated the position of the Republic of Moldova condemning the Russian aggression against the neighboring country", said Popescu.

The visit to Cairo led to the signing of several bilateral documents:

· Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a political consultation mechanism between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt;

· Visa Waiver Agreement for Holders of Diplomatic, Service/Officiall Passports;

· Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Egyptian Institute for Diplomatic Studies;

The visit to Cairo is part of the context of marking 30 years since the establishment of Moldovan-Egyptian bilateral relations, being the first visit of a Moldovan foreign minister to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
