Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili, on an official visit to Moldova, today discussed opportunities of diversifying the Moldovan-Georgian bilateral cooperation, in the context of the implementation of both countries’ European agenda, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The sides discussed the consequences of the war in Ukraine, which strongly hit the economies of Georgia and Moldova, triggered the increase in the inflation, disturbance of the logistic chains and a large-scale humanitarian crisis. The officials appreciated the European Union’s contribution to the attenuation of the impact of the war in the region and the constant support provided to the two countries for overcoming the chain crises.

„I have said innumerable times that Ukraine now fights for the generally human values and to preserve peace in the region. Or the peace and stability must come again to the region and in the entire Europe, in line with the international law. Despite all crises which hit us, we remain focused on the important reforms. We have come with a string of values and we stay loyal to them. In particular, I mean the implementation of the reform in the justice sector and combating corruption. These are the essential preconditions for the attraction of investments and creation of new jobs,’’ Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita said at the meeting.

The PM also expressed Moldova’s willingness to deepen the commercial, economic and investment relations. The Moldovan prime minister stressed the importance of strengthening the cooperation in the energy sector, in the IT sector and the ones of transports. In the context, Gavrilita welcomed the recent launch of the direct flight Chisinau-Tbilisi-Chisinau.

„I am honoured that I had occasion to come to Moldova by the first Tbilisi-Chisinau direct flight. This is an important signal of rapprochement between our countries and cultures. I regret that all these take place in a tragic context with the war in Ukraine. A war which hits everybody in the region. Yet, our countries proved solidarity; during war or in peace, we will remain united. Nobody can be isolated from this war and especially of its consequences,’’ the president of Georgia said.

The sides reiterated the will of extending the bilateral cooperation in all sectors and of mutual support in the process of implementing the European agenda. They officials also emphasized the importance of the organization, in 2023, of a new meeting of the Moldovan-Georgian inter-governmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation and a forum of business people.
