Moldovan foreign affairs minister has meeting with Czech counterpart in Prague

Chisinau, 26 October /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with her Czech counterpart Jan Lipavský in Prague. The officials discussed the difficulties in the energy sector and the bad consequences on the economy, faced presently by Moldova. Nicu Popescu thanked for the support the Czech Republic can provide to overcome the present challenges, both at the bilateral level and as member state of the European Union, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.    

„I informed my interlocutor that, in the conditions of this unprecedented energy crisis in Europe, we make sustained efforts to identify concrete solutions for the citizens for short- and medium-term. We will work together with the Czech authorities on the exchange of experience for organizing the second Summit of the European Political Community,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said after the meeting.    

In the context of the Czech Presidency of the EU Council, Deputy PM Nicu Popescu had a meeting with Czech Minister for European Affairs Mikuláš Bek.    

„I received once again a strong encouraging for our irreversible European way, discussing including about the assessment of the progress of reforms based on the action plan and recommendations by the European Commission. I repeatedly pointed out the fact that the European modernization means concrete things, such as the energy efficiency, continuing the projects with  community purpose – a good example being the water-purifying station from Briceni – and we ruled that we would establish together including the new priorities of the Czech programme of assistance for the next period,’’ the Moldovan official said.    

In his capacity of special guest at the international conference, Challenges for European Security, hosted by the Charles University from Prague and organized by the Europaeum network of European universities, the Moldovan official referred to the dramatic impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine and its consequences on Moldova, including the need to strengthen the defence and domestic affairs capacities.  

„I presented to the participants in the conference the situation in the Transnistrian region, highlighting that Chisinau relies, in continuation, on a peaceful, diplomatic solution of Transnistrian settlement in the present formats,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu added.

On the sidelines of the event, the official met the deputy head of the Czech diplomacy, Jiří Kozák, with whom he discussed the need to strengthen the bilateral relations. In the end of the visit, the Moldovan diplomacy head gave an interview for the public radio station from the Czech Republic.
