Moldova to receive loan from top European bank to rehabilitate more national roads

Chisinau, 11 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will receive a loan worth 100 million euros on behalf of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the implementation of the Moldova Roads IV  Project. The money will be allocated based on an amendment to the Agreement on Loan between Moldova and EBRD on the carrying out of works of construction and rehabilitation of roads in Moldova. The amendment was signed by Finance Minister Dumitru Budianschi and EBRD Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Matteo Patrone today.     

As a result of the amendments, over 85 km of roads are to be rehabilitated within the project on the following segments: the R14 road, R6 – Codru Nou – Soroca – Unguri - border with Ukraine, on the Soroca-Arionesti segment, 31 km in all; the R8.1 road, R8 – Arionesti – R14, the segment Arionesti-Otaci, 9.4 km in all; the road M3 Chisinau – Comrat – Giurgiulesti – border with Romania, the bypass road of the Vulcanesti town, 8.58 km in all; the road R33 Hancesti – Lapusna – M1, including the technical supervision of these works, 37.2 km in all.     

The agreement on amendment will contribute to the full implementation of the Roads’ Rehabilitation in Moldova IV Project, which will have economic benefits on the improvement of the state and quality of national roads’ network, which will indirectly facilitate the economic growth. At the same time, it will have a positive impact on the residents’ mobility through facilitating the road transport and enhancing the safety of the road traffic.  

The Agreement on Loan between Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on the carrying out of works of construction and rehabilitation of roads in Moldova was signed in 2013.
