Chisinau, Dec. 5 /MOLDPRES/- For the first time in the last period, we reached a long-term agreement, or the contracts concluded with MGRES provide for the period December 2022-March 2023, at an optimal price, which means that this winter we will have electricity for the whole country. Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development made the statement today.

"The war in Ukraine started by Russia is still going on, we don't know how long this barbaric and useless act will last, what surprises it may bring us, and with these contracts we have considerably reduced the risk of electricity interruption caused by Russia's bombing of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure. No government has done more for the country's energy security than the current one, but even so, we are still dependent on several factors that cannot be eliminated immediately. It was a complicated decision, in which we were guided exclusively by the interest of the people", said Spînu.

According to the official, today, December 5, the Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE) will meet to update some energy security decisions, including the adjustment of electricity tariffs. "After the CSE meeting, the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) will meet, which will reduce tariffs right from December. We anticipate a reduction of around 25%, but the final decision belongs to CSE and ANRE", said Spînu.

"We cannot play at the negotiation table with people's fate, but through this difficult decision agreed with Tiraspol, we aimed to ensure peace and predictability to the population. I know all the opinions, according to which we should have done it differently, but to be clear, I do not support the calls for ideas such as that we have to completely shut off the left bank gas. Politicians' decisions must provide humane solutions for all the citizens of our country", he said.

Energocom company signed this weekend the electricity supply contract with the Dnestrovsk Power Plant (MGRES) for the month of December. According to Spînu, this contract is a reasonable compromise to ensure the citizens on both banks of the Dniester with electricity and gas. "We agreed to have the same agreement for January, February and March. The right bank will receive the entire amount of electricity at the price of 73 dollars/MW. At the end of December, we will continue the discussions and I will inform about the results", according to the quoted source.
