Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/ - Officers of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) and the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS), within a joint team of investigations with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), have detained three men from Moldova, suspected of having facilitated the illegal crossing by Ukrainian citizens of the state border, starting from the last summer.

According to SIS, the men have ages between 25 and 50 years and are born in Otaci and Ocnita settlements. They were organizing the crossing of the border outside the border checkpoints – both by land and by crossing the Dniester river with boats. The perpetrators were collecting 4,500 dollars per one person for the illegal services provided.

Following searches at the homes and in the vehicles of the three men, they were detained, among whom there is also one of the organizers of the crime ring. Subsequently, the measure of preventive arrest was enforced on the two evildoers for 30 days.

SIS reiterates that, in cooperation with the special services of the neighbouring states, it monitored the security situation in the region, in order not to allow the entering of Moldova by people suspected of affiliation with crime rings and other undesirable elements.
