Chisinau, 19 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- In the Republic of Moldova, over 300 cases of cervical cancer are registered annually. Because of late referral to the doctor, every year more than 150 women die of cervical cancer. The data were made public by the authorities in the context of marking the European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week.
According to the National Health Insurance Company, in our country, cervical cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment services are financially covered by the mandatory medical assistance insurance funds. Therefore, the cytological test can be performed free of charge by both insured and uninsured women aged 25-61. They should go to their family doctor to have this test done.
Cervical cancer, also called cervical cancer, is the fourth most common type of cancer diagnosed among women worldwide. The disease is caused by infection with the Human Papilloma virus (HPV). The cytological test (Pap Test) performed once every three years by women aged 25-61, as well as the HPV vaccination in adolescence provides protection against cervical cancer.
