As many as 2.6 million people live in Moldova

Chisinau, 28 January /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 2.6 million people represents the real number of residents who live in Moldova. The figures were unveiled by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Moldova and were got based on an international methodology of calculation.

„For the first time after 30 years, the real number of the residents living in Moldova is known. This is due to the adoption of the international methodology of calculation of the population with usual residence, as well as to the fact that the number of people who leave and return to the country was calculated,’’ UNFPA Moldova noted.

The calculation of the revised number of the population, both nationally and locally, was made by Moldova’s National Statistics Bureau, with the support of UNFPA Moldova and the Swiss Corporation in Moldova.

UNFPA’s country programme for 2018-2022 is the strategic document of the organization, signed with Moldova’s government, based on which technical and financial assistance is provided in the process of the country’s development. The present Country Programme is carried out during 2023-2027.
