Moldovan president, forestry specialists discuss advancement of national programme on afforestation

Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with representatives of 24 forestry enterprises, Moldsilva Forestry Agency and Environment Ministry, the presidential press service has reported.

The interlocutors referred to the programme on afforestation – a priority of Moldova, as well as to ways through which its implementation can be sped up. Also, the participants in the meeting set the principal actions the institutions involved must carry out in the next months.

The national programme on afforestation, initiated by President Maia Sandu, provides for the increase in the area of woods in Moldova, in order to enhance the resilience to the climate changes, as well as to preserve and develop the national forest resources.

Thus, the programme is to be soon approved by the government and envisages extended activities of planting trees and seedlings, as well as the rehabilitation of the forest vegetation on an area of at least 145,000 hectares for the next ten years.
