Over 3,500 cases of violence in schools reported in Moldova in September -December 2022

Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/ - Education system employees on the period September-December 2022 identified 3,589 suspect cases of physical, emotional abuse, neglect, labour exploitation, sexual harassment and bullying. The Education and Research Ministry (MEC) today made public data to this effect, in the context of marking the International School Day of Non Violence and Peace.

Another format of reporting suspect cases of violence against children will be used starting from this year. According to the Education Ministry, the new model of reporting contains a special division on cases of bullying, as well as other specifications, in order to ensure the accuracy of the data collected.

In the last ten years, MEC has promoted a package of normative and methodological acts which establish a framework of action on behalf of the education staff as regards the institutional organization, prevention of violence, intervention in suspect cases of violence, communication with mass media, monitoring and assessment of the procedures approved. The most recent document, approved in 2022, is the methodology on the prevention and combating of bullying.
