Chisinau, Feb. 4 /MOLDPRES/- World Cancer Day is marked in Moldova.

According to the National Health Insurance Company, in our country, cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment services are covered by the mandatory medical assistance insurance (AOAM) funds for both insured and uninsured persons. In recent years, the range of medical services offered to these people within the unique Program of AOAM has been expanded.

At the level of specialized ambulatory medical assistance, citizens benefit from consultations and procedures performed by specialist oncologists, chemotherapeutic and hematological treatment in the day hospital, radiotherapy sessions. At the same time, the people have free access to diagnostic services at the Republican Colonoscopic Center, chemotherapeutic and antineoplastic drugs, collecting bags for stomas, expensive consumables - breast exoprostheses and individual prostheses. For the services provided at the level of specialized ambulatory assistance, almost 58 million lei (about 3 million euros) were allocated from the AOAM funds last year.

At the same time, the AOAM funds cover the expenses of suburban and interurban public transport for patients who perform radiotherapy and chemotherapy services in outpatient conditions. In this context, last year over 26 thousand lei were transferred. In 2022, about 366 million lei were allocated for the medical services.

In the last year, people who have been diagnosed with oncological diseases for the first time benefit faster from the first high-performance investigation. The waiting time of these patients for tomography/computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging was reduced nine times, from 45 days to 5 days.

People with oncological diseases also benefit from compensated drugs against the pain caused by cancer. The cost of these preparations is fully compensated for children and partially for adults.

CNAM announces that it is also allocating financial means for carrying out screening activities, which allow the detection of precancerous conditions and the early initiation of treatment. Thus, last year, almost four million lei were transferred from the prevention measures fund.
